CAPSTONE ACCELERATES PROGRESS IN NCD CAPACITY BUILDING
The CAPSTONE consortium convened a stakeholder meeting on the 17th of December 2024 at the University of Ghana to discuss a draft curriculum for short courses as part of efforts towards NCD capacity building in the region.

In a presentation to the stakeholders present at the meeting, Dr. Faith Agbozo, a member of the CAPSTONE team gave a brief background on the NCD program which will be incorporated into existing MPH programs in member institutions. She intimated that the project’s scope includes building capacity through co-creation and delivering NCD-focused short courses that will form the basis and foundation for an MPH program that focuses on NCDs.

Additionally, the program is earmarked to train at least 50 teachers in innovative teaching methods and techniques like a challenge-based learning approach; bringing together healthcare professionals from different disciplines and levels within the healthcare system to learn with and from each other; active engagement in outcomes for students and future employers; fostering international connections in health science education and capacity strengthening between Ghana, the Gambia, Africa and European partner institute.
She concluded that the endgame of this project is to introduce a new NCD-specific MPH program that utilises innovative teaching approaches both in Ghana and The Gambia; embed newly developed short courses in existing degree programmes as specialisation; and offer six new short courses to healthcare professionals for continuous professional education and to interested students.
Present at the meeting were representatives from GTEC, the member institutions, industry and CSOs and members of the consortium.
