Paul Bass
University Of The Gambia


BIO

Paul Bass is a Public Health Professional with a special focus on injury epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, non-communicable disease, and environmental and social impact assessment. Paul Bass received HND, BSc, MSc, and PhD in Public Health and is the current Head of the Department and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public and Environmental Health at the University of the Gambia (UTG). He is also an adjunct lecturer at the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) Masters and PhD programs. Paul Bass has over twelve (12) years of accumulated experience as a public health researcher as well as managing research grants and consultancies. He has successfully coordinated the project on establishing trauma registries in two major hospitals in the Greater Banjul Area with funding from the Injury Research Center at the University of Iowa and World Bank Global Facility small grants through the Road Traffic Injury Research Network (RTIRN). He also coordinated the National Institutes of Health/Fogarty International Center-funded project on Global Environment and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) to identify the needs and opportunities of occupational and environmental health risk factors in West Africa. Recently, Paul Bass also coordinated the Data Analysis and Use project funded by the European Agency for Development and Health (AEDES), a partnership project between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and UTG, and also a UTG team member for the European Union-funded CAPacity Strengthening of Transdisciplinary Education for nONcommunicable disease care in WEst Africa (CAPSTONE) project. He has published several papers in international peer-reviewed journals and three refereed conference proceedings.
